What is a proprietary blend, and what are the rules?
A proprietary blend is a group of ingredients sold under one total weight. Federal labeling rules let a brand print only that total. In return, the parts must be listed from heaviest to lightest (21 CFR 101.36).
Brands use blends for two reasons. They can keep a recipe private, and they can adjust a formula without reprinting every amount. The cost to you is less detail. You cannot see exactly how much of each ingredient you get.
Label order still sets firm limits. With three parts in 500 mg, the math gives a floor for the first and a ceiling for the other two.
- L-Citrulline DL-Malate At least 167 mg
- L-Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate Up to 250 mg
- L-Arginine HCL Up to 167 mg
| Blend part | Per capsule | Per day at 2 capsules | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st: L-Citrulline DL-Malate | At least 167 mg | Up to 1,000 mg (2 capsules) | It must weigh at least as much as each of the other two. |
| 2nd: L-Arginine AKG | Up to 250 mg | Up to 500 mg | It cannot outweigh the first, so it is half the blend at most. |
| 3rd: L-Arginine HCL | Up to 167 mg | Up to 333 mg | It is the lightest, so it is a third of the blend at most. |
What does Manufactured in an FDA registered facility mean?
It means the factory is listed with the FDA. Food and supplement plants in the US must register so the agency knows where they are and can inspect them. Registration is about the building, not about any product made inside it.
So BloodPril is not FDA approved, and the line never claims it is. The FDA does not have authority to approve dietary supplements before they go on sale (FDA, Q&A on Dietary Supplements). The factory itself is not named on the label.
The seal with the same words on the brand graphics is a brand badge. Our testing and quality page explains each seal and what we could and could not confirm.
What does the FDA statement on the label say?
Printed on the label
*These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
Every supplement that makes a claim about body function must carry this statement. On BloodPril, the asterisk after Blood Pressure Support leads to it. It is a plain reminder that the claim was written by the brand, not reviewed by the FDA.
It also confirms what the product is not. It is not a blood pressure medicine, and it cannot stand in for one. Ads for health products still need solid evidence behind their claims (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance).
What do the directions and caution tell you?
The directions are simple: one capsule a day with an 8 oz glass of water, and no more than two. The sales FAQ suggests the morning, before a meal. Our how to use page sets out a daily routine.
The label caution, point by point
- Do not take more than two capsules in a day
- Pregnant or nursing: consult a physician first
- Under 18: consult a physician first
- Any known medical condition, including high blood pressure: consult a physician first
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not use if the safety seal is damaged or missing
On medicine?
Taking blood pressure medicine, nitrates or a sildenafil-type drug? Ask your doctor before the first capsule, and never stop or change your medicine because of a supplement. (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine) A reading over 180/120 with chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness or vision change needs 911 (AHA, Blood pressure readings).
What is not on the label?
A few details you might look for are missing. None of them is required, but each would help a careful buyer.
Single amounts
The blend hides how much of each amino acid is inside. Only the 500 mg total is printed.
The factory name
The label names the distributor in Lakeland, Florida, but not the plant that made the capsules.
A lab certificate
Lot BP-26/GO-7114 and reference BP-7114-26-GO appear in our files, but no lab certificate is published.
