BloodPril Ingredients: What Is in Each Capsule
Quick answerEach BloodPril capsule holds a 500 mg proprietary blend of three amino-acid forms: L-citrulline DL-malate, L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate and L-arginine HCL, listed heaviest first. The single amounts are not printed. Label order puts citrulline malate at 167 mg or more and each arginine form at 250 mg or less. The capsule shell is plant-based cellulose.

What are the BloodPril ingredients?
BloodPril has three active ingredients, and all three are forms of amino acids. They share one 500 mg proprietary blend in every capsule. There are no herbs, vitamins or stimulants in the blend.
The cards below follow the label order, from heaviest to lightest. Tap any card to open that ingredient's full page with its research, dose and safety notes.
L-Citrulline DL-Malate
Citrulline bound to malic acidAt least 167 mg per capsuleListed first, so it is the largest part of the 500 mg blend. The body turns citrulline into arginine. Blood pressure trials used several grams a day.Read the full L-Citrulline DL-Malate page02Amino acid saltL-Arginine AKG
Alpha-ketoglutarate dihydrate (AAKG)Up to 250 mg per capsuleA sports-supplement form of arginine. The main human studies were about exercise, at 3 to 12 g a day, not blood pressure.Read the full L-Arginine AKG page03Amino acid saltL-Arginine HCL
Arginine hydrochlorideUp to 167 mg per capsulePlain arginine as a salt. Blood pressure trials used 4 to 24 g a day of arginine, far more than one capsule holds.Read the full L-Arginine HCL pageHow do citrulline and arginine work together?
Both feed the same pathway. The body uses arginine to make nitric oxide, a gas that signals blood vessel walls to relax. Relaxed vessels let blood flow with less resistance, which is why these amino acids are studied for circulation.
Citrulline takes a longer road. The kidneys turn it into arginine, so it raises arginine in the blood indirectly. In one study of healthy adults, oral citrulline raised blood arginine more efficiently than the same amount of arginine (Schwedhelm et al., 2008). A good share of swallowed arginine is used up in the gut and liver before it reaches the blood.
That helps explain why a formula might pair them. Our how it works page follows each step from capsule to blood vessel. For a side-by-side of the two amino acids, read L-citrulline vs L-arginine.
BloodPril ingredients at a glance
| Ingredient | Label order | Per capsule | What it is | Main caution |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| L-Citrulline DL-Malate | 1st | At least 167 mg | The kidneys turn citrulline into arginine | Stomach upset; may add to blood pressure drugs (WebMD, L-citrulline) |
| L-Arginine AKG | 2nd | Up to 250 mg | Arginine joined to alpha-ketoglutarate; studied in exercise | Same cautions as other arginine (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine) |
| L-Arginine HCL | 3rd | Up to 167 mg | Arginine as a hydrochloride salt, a common supplement form | Low pressure with heart drugs; not after a heart attack (MSKCC, Arginine) |
| Other ingredients | Not in blend | Not printed | Capsule shell, filler and flow agent | Plant-based shell; no known allergens listed |
How much of each ingredient is in one capsule?
The label prints only the 500 mg total. Federal rules let a brand do that, as long as the blend lists its parts from heaviest to lightest (21 CFR 101.36). That order still tells you a lot.
With three parts in 500 mg, the first must weigh at least a third, or about 167 mg. The second cannot be more than half, or 250 mg. The third cannot be more than a third, or about 167 mg. The bar below draws those limits.
- L-Citrulline DL-Malate At least 167 mg
- L-Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate Up to 250 mg
- L-Arginine HCL Up to 167 mg
Each weight also includes a carrier. Malate, alpha-ketoglutarate and the HCl salt all add weight that is not citrulline or arginine. Our Supplement Facts page retypes the full panel line by line.
How do the amounts compare with research doses?
Studies of these amino acids used grams a day, not milligrams. The table and bars below set the label limits beside those study doses. A smaller dose does not prove a product fails. It does mean the capsule is not the dose that was tested.
| Ingredient | BloodPril (per serving) | Doses used in studies | Gap | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| L-Citrulline DL-Malate | 167-500 mg (2 capsules: up to 1,000 mg) | Several grams a day in blood pressure trials | A small fraction | (Mirenayat et al., 2018) |
| L-Arginine AKG | Up to 250 mg (2 capsules: up to 500 mg) | 3-12 g a day in exercise studies | About 2-8% at most | (Campbell et al., 2006) |
| L-Arginine HCL | Up to 167 mg (2 capsules: up to 333 mg) | 4-24 g a day in blood pressure trials | Under 5% of the lowest trial dose | (Dong et al., 2011) |
L-Arginine (both forms)Under 10% of 4 g
L-Citrulline DL-MalateGram doses studied
Blood pressure trials of citrulline used several grams a day; one capsule's whole blend is 500 mg. (Mirenayat et al., 2018)
Two capsules a day1,000 mg blend

Three amino-acid forms share 500 mg, including the weight of their carriers. (21 CFR 101.36)
What else is in the capsule?
Three other ingredients make up the capsule itself. None of them is active. They hold the powder, fill the space and help the machines run.
| Ingredient | Job | Plain-English note |
|---|---|---|
| Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose | The capsule shell | Made from plant cellulose. It is why the capsule suits vegetarians. |
| Microcrystalline cellulose | Filler | Purified plant fiber that bulks out the powder so each capsule fills evenly. |
| Magnesium stearate | Flow agent | Helps powder move through the filling machine. A tiny share of each capsule. |
What the label does not include
- No caffeine or other stimulants
- No herbs or plant extracts in the active blend
- No added sugar, sweeteners or flavors listed
- No milk ingredient on the label
- No vitamins or minerals added beyond the magnesium in the flow agent
Which ingredients need a safety check first?
All three share the same main caution. They can relax blood vessels, so they may stack with medicines that do the same. The result can be pressure that drops too low, with dizziness or fainting.
On blood pressure medicine
Arginine and citrulline may add to the effect of your pills. Ask your doctor first, and never stop or change a prescribed dose.

Nitroglycerin, sildenafil and tadalafil also widen vessels. Mayo Clinic warns the pairing may drop pressure too low.
L-arginine HCL pageAfter a heart attack
An arginine trial after heart attack stopped early with more deaths in the arginine group. Talk to your cardiologist.

Pregnant or nursing, under 18, or living with kidney, liver or heart disease? The label asks you to consult a physician first. Our side effects and safety page lists every caution in one place. (Mayo Clinic, L-arginine) (Schulman et al., JAMA 2006) A reading over 180/120 with chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness or vision change needs 911 (AHA, Blood pressure readings).
Honest note: three good building blocks, small amounts
BloodPril uses a short, readable formula of three well-studied amino-acid forms. The trials that moved blood pressure used grams a day, many times what one capsule holds. No published trial has tested BloodPril itself.
What it does offer is simple: one plant-based capsule a day, a label you can read in a minute and a 60-day window to decide. Pair it with the habits that have strong evidence, like the DASH eating plan and less salt (NHLBI, DASH eating plan). Our blood pressure basics guide covers those steps.
BloodPril ingredients FAQ: questions people ask
What are the ingredients in BloodPril?
The active part is a 500 mg blend of L-citrulline DL-malate, L-arginine alpha-ketoglutarate and L-arginine HCL. The other ingredients are the capsule shell (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose), microcrystalline cellulose and magnesium stearate.
How much L-arginine is in BloodPril?
The exact amount is not published. By label order, the AKG form is at most 250 mg and the HCL form at most 167 mg per capsule, and part of that weight is the carrier, not arginine.
How much L-citrulline is in BloodPril?
At least 167 mg of L-citrulline DL-malate per capsule, because it is listed first in a 500 mg blend of three. Some of that weight is malate, not citrulline.
Is BloodPril a nitric oxide supplement?
Its three ingredients are building blocks the body uses to make nitric oxide, so it fits that group. It is labeled Blood Pressure Support and is not a blood pressure medicine.
Does BloodPril contain caffeine or stimulants?
No. The label lists only the three amino-acid forms plus the capsule and two fillers. None of them is a stimulant.
Is BloodPril vegetarian?
The capsule is hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, a plant-based shell, and no animal ingredient appears on the label. The vegetarian seal on the brand graphics is a brand badge, not a checked certification.
What is magnesium stearate doing in BloodPril?
It is a flow agent that keeps powder from sticking to machines when capsules are filled. It is used in very small amounts in many supplements.
Why does BloodPril use two kinds of arginine?
The brand does not explain the choice. AKG is a form popular in sports products, and HCL is a common salt form of plain arginine. Both deliver arginine plus a carrier.
Can I take BloodPril with my blood pressure pills?
Ask your doctor first. Arginine and citrulline may add to the effect of blood pressure drugs and drop pressure too low. Never stop or change your medicine because of a supplement.
Are BloodPril ingredients safe?
Arginine and citrulline are described as possibly safe for short-term use, with stomach upset among the common complaints. People on heart medicine, after a heart attack, or pregnant or nursing should ask first.
